Doll House Australian Colonial c1894 Made Of Australian Cedar & Pine

THE ALEXANDER IGNATZ GIETZ DOLL'S HOUSE. Alexander Ignatz Gietz was born in 1865. He married Sarah Letitia Turner in 1892 and when he knew that she was pregnant he began making this doll's house. It is carved from two wooden butter boxes (which was the way butter was delivered to the shops in those days). He also used cedar for the verandas, doors, windows and some of the framework. When the baby arrived in February 1894 it was a boy, however Alexander carried on and finished the house. Sarah became pregnant again and once again the baby was a boy. Unfortunately, there were no more children. The significance of the 1837 carved on the veranda header is not known. The peaked roof lifts off to expose the 4 internal rooms with fully functional Australian cedar French style doors. Please view images as all images are of the actual item.
